On the morning of September 18, Harris Stuarts Potani, Consul General of the Republic of Malawi in Changsha, together with Vice Consul Khumbo Rudo Mzikamanda, visited Jingdezhen Ceramic University (JCU). The delegation was warmly received by Chen Yunxia, Member of the University Standing Committee and Vice President of JCU. The two sides held discussions on potential cooperation between JCU and Malawian higher education institutions in the field of ceramics. Hou Tiejun, Dean of the School of Cultural Communication and Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, also attended the meeting.
Vice President Chen Yunxia warmly welcomed the Consul General and his delegation. She noted that cooperation between China and Malawi in trade, culture, and education has continued to deepen, creating favorable opportunities for higher education exchange between the two countries. She also briefly introduced the university’s history, disciplinary development, and educational programs, and emphasized JCU’s intention to actively expand cooperation with Malawian universities in areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research, and laboratory development, thereby promoting mutual learning and friendly exchanges in higher education. This visit, she added, has opened broader prospects for future collaboration between the two sides.
Consul General Harris Stuarts Potani expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception and spoke highly of JCU’s achievements in ceramic talent training, disciplinary development, and the distinctive advancement of ceramic education. He noted that during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in September 2024, the heads of state of China and Malawi announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. This visit, he said, represents an important step in consolidating that partnership. Within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, cooperation between Malawi and China holds broad and promising prospects. The Consulate General is willing to actively facilitate in-depth collaboration between Jingdezhen Ceramic University and Malawian institutions such as the Malawi University of Science and Technology, with the expectation that tangible outcomes will be achieved at an early stage.

During the visit, Consul General Potani and his delegation also toured the university museum, where they expressed high appreciation for JCU’s accomplishments in ceramic art creation and talent cultivation.
