On December 4, 2024, “Spring Festival - Social Practices of Chinese New Year Celebrations” successfully passed the evaluation and was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. To commemorate the successful inscription of the Spring Festival, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Intangible Cultural Heritage Department commissioned the Jingdezhen Municipal Government to design and produce the ceramic art piece “Spring Bowl”, aiming to showcase the unique charm of the Spring Festival culture through inheritance and innovation.

This extraordinary design has a diameter of 1 meter, symbolizing the first year of the Spring Festival's inscription, and a height of 56 centimeters, representing the common wishes of the 56 ethnic groups in China. The “Spring Bowl”, modeled after the Zhengde bowl, is adorned with five different calligraphic characters of the word “福”(meaning blessings), symbolizing the arrival of five blessings and expressing people's longing for a better life. It also employs exquisite underglaze blue and overglaze enamel ceramic decoration techniques, cleverly integrating six major Spring Festival customs: “Decorating Windows with Paper Cutouts”, “Lion Dance”, “Dragon Dance”, “Setting off Firecrackers”, “Family Reunion Dinner”, and “Watching Traditional Operas”. The vibrant colors of the scenes exude joy, not only showcasing lively Spring Festival scenes but also conveying the idea of peace and harmony of Chinese civilization."

The “Spring Bowl” is a meticulously crafted piece led by Associate Professor Wang Hao from the School of Design and Art. The design team includes Lin Yingyi, Chen Yanfei, Li Yingwei, Meng Xuanyu, Chen Xi, Yuan Wenxin, Zhang Ning, and Wang Yue. The team collaborated with more than ten intangible cultural heritage inheritors to create this piece which preserves traditional charm and incorporates innovative elements of modern design, achieving a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.

The “Spring Bowl" is not only a magnificent ceramic artwork but also a vivid testament to the inheritance and innovation of Spring Festival culture—a living embodiment of Xi Jinping's cultural thought. To celebrate the successful inscription of the Spring Festival and to allow more people to appreciate the charm of Jingdezhen ceramics, a “Spring Festival Inscription Commemorative Bowl” series will also be available for purchase on relevant platforms.
