On the morning of November 25, Norwegian Consul General in Shanghai, Tobias Svenningsen, and his delegation visited JCU for a discussion and exchange. The university’s Party Secretary, Pu Shouzhi, warmly received the delegation and hosted a meeting in the first-floor conference room of JCU Museum. Yang Zhimin, Party Committee Member and Director of the Organization Department, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, participants watched the university’s promotional film, The Huangpu of Ceramics. On behalf of the university, Pu extended a warm welcome to Svenningsen and his delegation. He highlighted that JCU is the only multidisciplinary university in China and the world named after ceramics, boasting a history of 114 years. With a comprehensive “bachelor’s-master’s-doctorate” education system, the university has become a key base for cultivating ceramic talent, advancing ceramic technology, and fostering cultural and artistic exchanges globally.

Pu emphasized the university’s commitment to leveraging its unique academic advantages and serving as an ambassador for the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture. He expressed hopes that this visit would further promote cooperation between the university and Norway in ceramic education and artistic exchange. He also welcomed further collaboration with Norwegian ceramic artists to jointly contribute to the flourishing of global ceramic art. This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Norway, making this exchange even more significant.

Tobias Svenningsen, on behalf of the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai, expressed gratitude for the university’s warm reception. He remarked on the profound influence of Jingdezhen ceramics on Europeans’ perception of China, noting the centuries-long renown of Chinese ceramic art in Europe. Svenningsen shared his delight in visiting the university and witnessing the contributions of Norwegian artists to its development. He hoped for closer ties between JCU and the Norwegian artistic community, with more Norwegian students studying at the university. Additionally, he expressed great anticipation for the 2026 IAC Congress to be held in Jingdezhen and looked forward to deeper cooperation in ceramic art and cultural exchange.

During the visit, Svenningsen and his delegation toured the exhibition “Art as a Carrier of Morality: Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of New China”, showcasing the achievements of the university’s art education, as well as the International Ceramic Art Studio.

Relevant representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange (International School), School of Fine Arts, School of Design and Art, and JCU museum attended the meeting.
