The university and the city share a tight bond. Jingdezhen Ceramic University, the only multidisciplinary university in China named after ceramics, is one of the 94 institutions authorized to enroll Chinese Government Scholarship students. With a comprehensive higher education system encompassing undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, the university has become a significant hub for ceramic talent training, technological innovation, and cultural exchange, both nationally and internationally.

Leveraging its distinctive disciplinary and professional advantages, the university actively embraces its role as an ambassador for the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture. It has deepened mutual learning and integration with global partners in ceramic education, fostering international exchanges. By seizing the strategic opportunities presented by the construction of the Jingdezhen National Ceramic Culture Inheritance and Innovation Experimental Zone, the university coordinates efforts to advance both the “bringing in” and “going out” aspects of education. With ceramics as a medium, JCU has strengthened collaborations the local community, providing robust support for Jingdezhen’s economic and social development.

Pooling Resources at Home and Abroad
Expanding New Channels for International Cooperation and Exchange
JCU actively broadens high-level international collaboration by developing world-class academic platforms. Together with the Jingdezhen Municipal People’s Government and the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), the university has co-established the “Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale,” filling the void of an international brand academic exhibition for ceramics in China. In 2024, the exhibition’s works toured in Sweden. Furthermore, the university co-initiated the establishment of the “Ceramic Road International Ceramic Education Alliance” with the IAC, striving to create a global ceramic higher education community. Partnerships with prominent universities worldwide enable faculty exchange, student exchange, short-term study programs, and joint training initiatives. JCU is also exploring new mechanisms for international cultural and technological collaboration. For example, it is working with the China-Arab Science, Technology, and Cultural Education Alliance to build a Ceramic Culture and Technology Innovation Laboratory, ensuring its specialized disciplines and scientific research remain aligned with international frontiers.

Using Ceramics as a Medium
Building a New Platform for Cultural Exchange

The university actively participates in major activities organized by the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), complementing each other’s strengths and fostering win-win collaborations. This ongoing effort enhances the global influence and discourse of Chinese ceramic culture and art within the worldwide ceramics community.

The university also promotes international brand projects such as “Residency at JCU” and “Study Visits at JCU.” It organizes high-level international ceramic art exhibitions and academic symposiums, collaborates with the National Committee on Scientific and Technical Terminology to establish the Research Base for International Communication of Chinese Ceramic Terminology and Culture, and works with Jiangxi Daily to build the International Ceramic Culture Communication Center.
